2026 Camp Staff

At Camp Shoresh, we are one big happy family!
Hiring the right staff is the key component to ensuring a wonderful camp experience for our campers.

We are looking for staff members who LOVE kids and are excited and passionate about spending their summer with our campers, enabling them to develop self-confidence and independence, forge life-long friendships, and create amazing memories.

Being an effective staff member requires a tremendous amount of energy, spirit, caring, sensitivity, and patience.

Individuals who will be entering at least 11th grade in Fall 2026 are encouraged to apply.

Rabbi Dave Finkelstein

Executive Director
Rabbi Dave Finkelstein is returning for his 41st summer as Director of Shoresh. This will actually be his 45th summer at camp, as he was a counselor for four years prior. If you are a well-behaved camper, you get a treat from Rabbi Dave's office or a special ride on his Gator. Rabbi Dave served as a Judaics teacher at Beth Tfiloh Community School in Baltimore for 18 years. He serves on various committees at the Associated Jewish Federation of Baltimore, and has won several awards in Jewish Education. Rabbi Dave's favorite part of his job is giving Fidler Teen Torah Center classes in Virginia.

Rabbi Asher Stein

Dean of Jewish Life
Rabbi Asher Stein will be back for his 46th year at Camp Shoresh. Rabbi Stein oversees various aspects of the Judaics program at camp, including division- and camp-wide Jewish learning sessions. During the year, Rabbi Stein is a Judaics teacher at Beth Tfiloh Community School in Baltimore. His ruach (energy) is infectious, as he is everyone's favorite at camp.

Rabbi Tzvi Tuchman

Assistant Director
Rabbi Tzvi Tuchman is returning for his 22nd summer, 19th as the Assistant Director. "Rabbi T" was a counselor for three years before he moved to Columbus, OH for 13 years where he was the Program Director of the Columbus Community Kollel. In camp, Rabbi T can be found leading small group tutoring sessions and serving the Jewish educational needs of our campers, otherwise he inevitably will be fixing something broken. During the off-season, Rabbi T directs Shoresh's Adult Education program, where he personally teaches many classes each month to Frederick, MoCo, Baltimore, and Virginia participants.

Yakov Majeski

Assistant to the Head Staff
Rabbi Yakov Majeski will be returning for his 20th summer at Shoresh. You never know what crazy Yiddish song "Majik" will have the whole camp singing each summer. He brings awesome and creative spirit to camp. Walk into the lunch room and you will see Majik leading the dancing, singing, and zaniness. Rabbi Majeski is the Middle School General Studies Principal at Talmudical Academy in Baltimore during the school year.
Director of Operations

Rachel Shar

Program Director
Rachel Shar has been a part of the Shoresh family for ten years. Rachel brings her unique creativity, her love of programming, and her passion for inspiring children together to create one-of-a-kind programming at Camp Shoresh. When she's not creating and running camp-wide programs (like Challah Bakes for chesed, Shabbaton activities, and Color War), Rachel is the First Grade General Studies teacher, Program Director, and Director of the OCA Theatrical Society at Ohr Chadash Academy in Baltimore.

Moshe Tuchman

Field Director
Moshe Tuchman is thrilled to be coming back for his ninth summer at Camp Shoresh and his fourth as Field Director. His past experience as a CIT Boys' counselor, the Lower Boys' Division Head, the Upper Boys' Division Head, and the Challenge Course Director, have made him hugely successful in this role. He is a man of many talents! During the year he is a Second Grade teacher at Baltimore's Ohr Chadash Academy.

Alon Dek

CIT Director
Alon Dek will be returning for his 25th summer. Alon has a great relationship with the CIT boys and is a mentor to them all year long. One minute he’ll be playing an intense game of basketball, and the next he’s answering the CIT boys' toughest questions about Judaism. He makes the best Rice Krispies treats this side of the Mason-Dixon line. Alon has been a special education teacher at Sulam in Rockville for the past 20+ years.

Esti Tuchman

Director of Junior Shoresh
Esti Tuchman is originally from Denver, Colorado and moved to Baltimore 8 years ago. During the year she is a Kindergarten teacher at Bnos Yisroel of Baltimore, and her love for Judaism can be felt in her passion for teaching Judaic studies. Esti’s classroom is filled with song, dance, and projects bringing the Torah to life. She is excited to bring this same joy and energy to Junior Shoresh for her second year at Camp Shoresh! In addition to her love for education, Esti enjoys being crafty and creative - especially using her Cricut! - and being a mother to her beautiful family.

Rivka Tuchman

Assistant Director of Junior Shoresh

Hannah Marill

Upper Girls' Division Head
Hannah Marill is back for her 16th summer at Camp Shoresh, and couldn’t be more excited to hang out with the best division ever—Upper Girls, woo woo! During the school year, she teaches middle school Judaics at Yeshivat Noam in Paramus, NJ, but come summer, you’ll find her running around camp in a tutu, dancing her heart out during Yavo, and spreading snocone syrup all over. Originally from Rockville, Maryland, Hannah loves bringing her energy and enthusiasm to camp and can’t wait for another amazing summer full of laughter, friends, and unforgettable memories.

Devorah Krainess

Lower Girls' Division Head
Devorah Krainess can't wait to return to Camp Shoresh as the Lower Girls' Division Head for a fifth year, after leading the CIT Girls her first summer at Shoresh. She eagerly guides the rising 2nd-5th grade girls and counselors to a fantastic summer. Her enthusiasm and warmth make her ideal for this role! During the school year, Devorah is an ESS and davening teacher at the Yeshiva of Greater Washington in Silver Spring, and also runs the school play.

Mo Margolese

Upper Boys' Division Head
After a legendary run as Head Counselor, Rabbi Moshe "Mo" Margolese took an accidental 10+ year hiatus to "adult," taking on important tasks like community building, serving as head of a school, and endless fundraising initiatives. But deep down, Mo always knew he was destined for one thing: leading a wild, energy-packed summer of ruach, laughs, and camp shenanigans! And now, Mo is BACK IN ACTION! Expect epic cheers, surprise costume changes, and a somewhat limited supply of Torah wisdom. Like a water balloon that refuses to pop on impact, Mo is bouncing back and bringing the fun! Shoresh campers, brace yourselves—the legend has returned. This summer is going to be next level. #MoIsBack #ShoreshForever #PrayForTheStaff
